“It’s like she’s never eaten before,” Christian remarks in amazement.

I am pretty amazing.

“If she put that much effort into a patrol, we’d never have another rogue again.” I toss a bit of pastry at Kade for that comment—even though it’s true—considering he’s a rogue. Maybe not anymore by the usual definition, but he will always be my rogue.

“I’m stuffed.” Liam pushes his plate away before sipping his mimosa.

So far it’s been quiet. The other council members have kept to themselves, only eyeing us every now and again, and I’m okay with that. Let them look and wonder. They should.

I pop a cream cheese pastry into my mouth, adding to the bubble in my butt, and chew slowly, trying to get it all down. Fearing I’ve gone too far and I may puke, I hide behind my coffee cup and swallow as best as I can.

“Ate too much, didn’t you?” Athos points a slice of bacon at me as I struggle to swallow.

This cheese danish will not conquer me.

I vehemently shake my head and instantly regret it as nausea swells.

“Don’t do it,” Christian growls in my ear.

I know what he’s referring to—my tendency to puke. It isn’t like I can help it. I have a weak stomach. My nerves express themselves in the form of vomit. We can’t all remain calm, cool, and collected like Ash. Though I strive to be… one day.

I swallow, the leather of my leggings threatening to spill my stomach over the band. This is a glorious circumstance.

“What’s the tally?” Liam asks.

“One bagel, three cups of coffee, five slices of bacon, a cherry danish, a chocolate doughnut, and a cheese danish.” Christian snaps his fingers. “And an egg white omelette.”

I may have regrets, but only the good kind. Like tasting all this incredible food made by the kitchen staff. Seriously, they need an award for this spread.

“Where did it all go?” Kade lifts my shirt and pokes my tummy.

I groan.

“She’s going to blow,” Christian warns. “Why would you poke the beast?”

“She’s going to blow up a toilet.” Liam laughs, the sound tinkling around me like bells.

Seriously, I’m too full to even talk. You all suck.

Oh no, Damsel, that’s all you. Christian’s hand slides up my thigh.

Normally my body would be on fire and ready to straddle the chair he’s sitting in. Problem is, I ate too much.

You did. Athos doesn’t sound amused. I told you not to get half that shit.

I had an omelette. I try to excuse my behavior with the one decent food choice I made, but it falls on deaf ears.

Now Nix sits back and stares at me like I’ve lost my mind. Sweetling, he begins, and I know I’m about to get scolded like a small child who got caught in the cookie jar. This is the same conversation we’ve had in the past. Health food means you don’t feel like shit afterwards. And before you say it, the omelette doesn’t cancel out the pastries.

I literally thought she’d only eat one. Liam’s still laughing, his eyes brilliant in the sunny room.
